Kinky Curly Care- What you should and shouldn’t do

There is a HUGE misconception that more is better when it comes to products and hair. The mistake we sometimes make is that we tend to treat our bundles or wigs the same as we treat our hair, this is a no-no, our hair contains natural oil, vitamins, and exposure that bundles and wigs don’t get.

Although, frizz is hard to prevent 100% of the time, here is a list of methods to try..

(FYI- John Freida / Paul Mitchell have really good products for frizz control. One of my most favorite curl gel I discovered most recently is Kurlee Belle https://kurleebelle.com/ great for kinky curly hair textures without drying out or that crunchy feel, as well as Pattern, Pattern is a new black-owned hair care product line that I ran across while on ULTA, they have a wide range of products but this cream is the one that I like and use most frequently https://www.ulta.com/p/styling-cream-pimprod2016912)

Here a few suggestions/steps that I follow with kinky curly textured hair;

1. Part and section hair every night, spray each section lightly with water, brush each section with a Denman/Paddle brush (you can find at your local hair store, Amazon, Walmart, or Sally’s), add a dime size of product braid those sections, whether you do 4, 6, 8 braids that are your preference-  this keeps the moisture and protects the curls.- this method should help keep the frizz to a minimum.
Remember Kinky Curly textures tend to shed, so don’t be scared of a little shedding that may occur especially when brushing or combing while wet, however, a lot of shedding even when not brushing or combing is not normal.

2. Use minimal products, If you do choose to use products use a “good brand” geared toward that textured hair, or for curls (for example John Freida, Creme of Nature, Motions, Paul Mitchell, etc.)

3. Always cover hair in a satin bonnet https://www.makidelabeauty.com/product/long-silk-bonnet/
DO NOT COVER WHILE WET– this can cause breakage as well as can cause the hair not to dry properly and possibly can cause mold to grow, Ewwww we don’t want mold in our hair Beauties!

4. When you uncover and take down the braids- you can use a bit of styling mousse if you choose- however, this step is optional.

Please keep in mind- these steps are what I follow, however, you or your Hairstylist may have another routine that they recommend including products.
I hope this information helps you, please feel free to reach out again if you have additional questions.

Disclosure- I am not a hair care professional- I can only suggest items and procedures that tend to work for me and others alike, as stated above consult your Hairstylist for other products or care instructions.
Thank you for choosing MaKiDeLaBeauty.
